Sanctioned Trials

The SSJRTC holds four JRTCA-sanctioned trials each year. Mid-January MLK weekend, the first weekend in April (depending on Easter date). A membership social and practice is also held the first weekend in November. Sanctioned events offered may include Conformation, Go-to-ground, Racing, Super-Earth, Trailing & Locating, and Brush Hunt. Non-sanctioned events such as Lure Course and Thunder Tunnel are also typically available. Participants in sanctioned events must be current JRTCA members.  The club records all sanctioned event results with the national JRTCA.

Non-Sanctioned Trials

Several non-sanctioned events are also offered during these trials and usually include Barn/ Brush Hunt, Lure Coursing and Thunder Tunnel. Non-sanctioned events are open to non-members and any terrier* not more than 15″ in height at the shoulder. Prizes and ribbons for both sanctioned and non-sanctioned events are awarded for 1st – 6th place in each class. Special awards are also provided for Champion and Reserve Champion in each class.

*Other Terrier Exception: Terriers other than Jack Russell Terriers will have separate classes, separated into Overs and Unders when number of entries warrant. SSJRTC will provide 1-6 placement ribbons. Non-JRT owners may sponsor championship and reserve ribbons and prizes if commited sufficiently prior to event date so that these can be ordered with other club merchandise.

Terrier Days

, Practice/ Workshop Events, Membership Appreciation Day, Public JRT Racing Exhibitions
A Terrier Day is very similar to a trial in terms of the events offered and ribbons and prizes awarded. It is not an ‘official’ trial nor is it sanctioned by the JRTCA. Historically, these were held once a year as a fund raiser. Beginning 2012 with the addition of a third annual trial (January’s Thaw Your Paws I & II) future Terrier Days will be considered in light of available dates to be held on and/ or the ability of the club volunteers to execute such an event. SSJRTC membership is not required for a Terrier Day. Reduced entry fees are offered to SSJRTC members. All terriers are welcome. Non-JRTs will be in separate classes.

Membership Appreciation Day

is held once during the year. A variety of events are offered such as racing, go-to-ground, lure coursing, etc. There is no cost for participation. SSJRTC membership is required for participation. All terriers are welcome. Non-JRTs will be in separate classes.

Public JRT Racing Exhibitions –

Typcially, one or two times a year SSJRTC will put on a JRT Racing Exhibition for the general public at an event such as the Florida State Fair, Palm Beach Coast Equestrian event or similar. This is a fund-raising event. Entries are at reduced rates or free. Ribbons and prizes are usually awarded. As we are showcasing the SSJRTC to the general public SSJRTC membership is required and only JRTs may participate.

Practices/ Fun or Play Days/ Workshops –

These are various names given to ad hoc get togethers generally scheduled in and around other more official events. Varying activities are offered such as racing, go-to-ground, lure coursing, conformation and grooming instruction. Typically, no ribbons or prizes are awarded. There is no cost for these events. SSJRTC membership is not required. All terriers are welcome.

Terrier Times Newsletter

The SSJRTC publishes a quarterly Terrier Times e-newsletter. This newsletter is emailed to current members and contains recent and upcoming club information as well as member-provided photos of the fun we have with our terriers. An online version is available at Terrier Times.
Submissions for inclusion in the Terrier Times or for the Announcements page of this website should be sent to the webmaster.

Calendar of Events

SSJRTC maintains event scheduling on the Events Calendar  page. This, along with the Announcements page, should be those you visit often if you wish to keep up with what’s going on with the club. These two pages are updated most regularly.

Child & Youth

The SSJRTC is proud to support the future of our club as well as the JRT breed by offering a special program for young folks. We have plenty of Jacks to share so they need not own their own pet. Your children will learn valuable competition skills and responsibility lessons by participating in the SSJRTC Child & Youth program. They will also have a lot of fun!

Russell Rescue

SSJRTC proudly supports the Russell Rescue organization. JRTs find themselves in need of a Forver Home for any number of reasons. In addition to promoting RR through this website and our Terrier Times newsletter, the club also donates partial proceeds from our trials to the support of their mission.
